Choosing Images For Your Website
Images have a big effect on how polished and credible the site feels.
What Usually Works Best
- Clear, well-lit photos.
- Images that reflect your real business, team, location, products, or work.
- Landscape images for banners and section backgrounds, unless a square or portrait crop is specifically needed.
- Files that are reasonably large and sharp before upload.
What To Prioritise
- Real photography over generic stock where possible.
- Consistent style, tone, and quality.
- Images that support the message on the page rather than filling space.
Things To Avoid
- Tiny files pulled from social media or WhatsApp.
- Heavily compressed or blurry images.
- Images with text baked into them unless that is intentional artwork.
- A mixed set of images that all have very different colour balance or quality.
If You Need Stock Images
If you do not have enough original photography, stock can be used. It works best when the selection feels consistent and relevant to the business rather than generic.
Preparing Files
- Use clear filenames if possible.
- Keep alternative versions if there are crops you definitely want to preserve.
- Send logos separately from general photos.
- If an image has usage restrictions, mention that when sharing it.
